Participating in SAA

Upcoming Member Events and Opportunities

For Foundational Skills, Deeper Digs, Knowledge Series, SALSA, and Career Pathways events, please register beforehand. To learn more about these different types of opportunities, see Continuing Education.

Third Thursdays

Third Thursdays are a pilot program to encourage networking between SAA members. On the third Thursday, members can sign up to join a Zoom meeting to meet other members who share an interest in a given subject.

On a Third Thursday Zoom, you will be a part of two breakout rooms to discuss the topic, discuss your research, or to simply connect with your colleagues. The breakout rooms will be member led, allowing a flexible format in a given room in which members bring forward their research questions, share new publications and their thoughts, and/or simply meet more archaeologists.

Registration is $5 for professional and joint members and $2 for all other member categories and closes two days before the meeting.

Upcoming Third Thursdays are now available:

May 16, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Eastern - Geoarchaeology

July 18, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Eastern - Repatriation

Participate in the SAA

The SAA offers multiple ways for its members to participate in the Society and to connect with colleagues.

Interest groups offer SAA members the opportunity to exchange information and ideas on specific topics. To promote these conversations, interest groups may support an e-Community.  e-Communities foster discussions and the exchange of ideas with colleagues from around the globe.

Each year, the SAA accepts submissions for its annual meeting between May and the first Thursday of September. Learn more about the SAA's submissions process by visiting the Annual Meeting web page.
The SAA encourages members to submit research for journal or magazine articles, to contribute book reviews, and to propose book-length works with The SAA Press.
Share your expertise and gain valuable experience by volunteering for a committee or task force during the SAA’s Open Call for Committee Service each November. Visit the Committee and Task Force page to see a list of the SAA's volunteer committees.
The Annual Meeting would not be possible without volunteers. Volunteer for two 4-hour shifts and receive a complimentary meeting registration. To see detailed descriptions of volunteer opportunities and to apply, visit our Annual Meeting page.
SAA Continuing Education offers free and fee-based professional development opportunities designed for students and archaeologists seeking to enhance their skill sets or knowledge base. Attend a lecture or other training with your anthropology club, workplace, or as an individual.
