Description of past and current involvement in public education and outreach

In 1989 I received my AA from BYU Idaho in Early Childhood Education. The remainder of my formal education has been in Archaeology. From 1991-2001 I worked for the Forest Service (as a district archaeologist). While at the Forest Service I presented a number of "Preserving the Past for the Future" slide presentations to a variety of community groups (Kiwanis, Lions, Lake Oroville Summer Speaker Series, and various campfire programs). I have designed and presented various archaeology workshops for 4th grade classes for the annual Marysville Unified School District outdoor education program (9 years running). I have developed and presented archaeology lessons to local schools for grades K-4. I have also spoken at High Schools during career events.

Interest in PEC Membership

I believe the PEC has a wealth of knowledge concerning archaeology and preservation of the archaeological record geared to the elementary classroom. I hope that by being a member of the PEC I will be able to share in that existing body of knowledge to deliver improved K-12 presentations. I hope to gain skills to extend my firms services beyond the CRM work to include education in the classroom.I have shared archaeology with the public since 1991. I have spent a lot of my personal time developing strategies to reach different audiences. I hope to share my experience and lesson ideas with the PEC. This in turn will enhance my lesson plans for sharing archaeology in the classroom.

Area of interest: I have a desire to share archaeology in the K-12 setting.

Target audience(s):  My target audiences have primarily been in elementary school settings for students and teachers, with a secondary interest in sharing archaeology with the general public.
