SAAweb - Teaching Archaeology

Welcome Educators

October 2004

The Society for American Archaeology, Public Education Committee (SAA PEC) thanks you for your interest in introducing archaeology and cultural history to your classes. The lesson plans included in Teaching Archaeology, A Sampler for Grades 3 to 12 were selected from four classroom-tested archaeology-based units. The individual lessons focus on the application of the scientific method, teaching options for local cultural history, archaeology as a multidisciplinary science, and stewardship.

Teaching Archaeology originally was published in 1995 and copyrighted in 1996. It was later posted on the Internet on the Society for American Archaeology Web site (www.saa.org) and, in 2004, produced on CD-ROM. The production of Teaching Archaeology on CD-ROM has been made possible through a grant from the Bureau of Reclamation, with assistance from the Society for American Archaeology.
