Ch'arki at Chavín: Ethnographic Models and Archaeological Data

Abstract
We welcome Valdez's recent contributions to the developing corpus of ethnographic observations concerning the production and use of ch'arki in the Andes and to our understanding of the interpretative value of differential camelid bone concentrations in Andean archaeological sites. The numerous issues raised by Valdez would require more space than is available in this forum to adequately address them. What we will present here can only hope to outline the most salient points of contention and encourage further investigations into these problems.

Apreciamos las recientes contribuciones de Valdez al desarrollo de la base de datos etnográficos referentes a la producción y uso de charki en los Andes y al entendimiento del valor interpretativo encontrado en concentraciones diferenciales de huesos de camélidos en sitios arqueológicos andinos. Una adecuada respuesta a todas las preguntas propuestas por Valdez requeriría mayor espacio del disponible en este foro. Aquí solamente tocamos los puntos de desacuerdo más salientes y recomendamos futura investigación de estos problemas.
