2017 Call for Submissions (PDF)
A Letter from SAA's President
April 1, 2016
It’s time to start planning your participation in next year’s 82nd Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We are excited to return to this beautiful location, where a new presentation format—Lightning Rounds—will be introduced as an option. A Lightning Round is in a Forum format, organized around a specific topic, with one hour of 3-minute presentations and one hour of free-form discussion groups with individual presenters or discussion among the group as a whole. We hope that this will respond to our members’ desire for smaller-scale and more ample discussion time. The Lightning Round is analogous to the Forum format, and the roles include moderator, co-moderator, and discussant.
The SAA’s 82nd Annual Meeting in Vancouver, BC, Canada, March 29 – April 2, 2017, Call for Submissions can be accessed online. Submissions are only accepted electronically via the SAAweb. This is the same online submission system as in the past few years.
We believe the web system is straightforward and user-friendly. The system allows users to change their submissions online within the submission window, count and summarize participant roles in one convenient location, register for the meeting, and update their SAA membership profile instantly. Session chairs can invite participants to their session via automated emails or by sending the participant their session ID number. The system auto-submits your session with all completed participants (those who have completed all steps including paying registration) when the deadline hits.
The web-based system will open for submissions May 2, 2016, and the submissions deadline is Thursday, September 8, 2016, 3 pm Eastern Time. There is no grace period, as all submissions are electronic. The afternoon deadline is to ensure that staff will be on hand to assist persons in other time zones right up until the moment the system shuts down. Nothing may be submitted after the deadline, but changes to a submission may be made up until the deadline.
Prospective session organizers should note the Amerind Seminar program: co-sponsored by SAA and the Amerind Foundation, this program will recognize an outstanding symposium at the 2017 Annual Meeting. Complete information on this honor is located in the Call for Submissions and on the Amerind web site (www.amerind.org). If you wish to have your symposium considered for this program, be sure to check the appropriate box during your web submission.
As you may be aware, presenting at the annual meeting is a privilege of membership in SAA.
• Current members submitting must renew their membership for 2017 before the close of the membership grace period, January 30, 2017.
• Nonmembers submitting must join the Society by November 15, 2016.
Should either non-members or renewing members miss their respective renewal/join deadline, the Board of Directors will reject the submission. This action will supersede any action by the Program Committee. Once rejected by the Board, the pending submission cannot be reinstated. Also, please be aware that the deadlines are firm.
The 2017 Annual Meeting is just less than twelve months away, but many of you will want to organize your contribution before summer arrives with its many demands on your time. We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver next March and hope you consider participating in our new Lightning Rounds.
